Within the process of understanding for the conclusion of bilateral agreement between the hydrographic offices of the Republic of Croatia and the Italian Republic, a working meeting at assistant director level was held 30.11.2011. at the Hydrographic Institute of Croatia. Croatian and Italian delegations were led by Željko Bradarić, assistant director for international cooperation and safety of navigation, and F. Paolo Lusiani, head of Studies and external relations department, respectively.
Members of Croatian delegation were Pejo Bročić, head of Cartographic department, Mendi Čala, Cartographic System Support Adviser and ENC adviser, and Danijel Pušić, Nautical System Support Adviser. Members of Italian delegation were V. Rosario La Pira, head of Surveys and production department, and F. Massimiliano Nannini, head of Cartographic department. Besides revision and harmonisation of the 2nd draft bilateral agreement, items on the agenda included topical issues of overlap between Croatian and Italian ENCs, and a long-time unsustainable lack of paper INT charts of the Adriatic, whose production had been entrusted to Italy. In a daylong constructive working atmosphere, a significant progress and accord on the above mentioned issues was achieved.
Co-production of paper INT charts for entire area of the Adriatic Sea was agreed, the problem of overlap for general ENCs was solved, and the 2nd draft bilateral agreement was approved. The issue of overlap for overview ENCs remains to be further elaborated by Italian partners, and subsequently examined by the HHI. A visit to the Hydrographic Institute Museum was arranged during the break.
