In 2005 the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) adopted the concept of World Hydrography Day 21 June, which was welcomed by the United Nations General Assembly in resolution A/60/30. Since 2007 the International Hydrographic Organization and its member states have engaged in a number of activities on or around 21 June every year to mark the World Hydrography Day, with the aim to increase public awareness of the vital role that hydrography plays in everyone’s life.
Through a range of promotional activities and events, all IHO member states are invited to cooperate in order to promote safe navigation, particularly in international waters and ports, and the protection of marine reserves.
The theme for this year’s World Hydrography Day is “Hydrography – much more than just nautical charts”. On this occasion the International Hydrographic Organization issued a media release.
To celebrate this year’s World Hydrography Day, the Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia held an exhibition, as well as a debate organized by the Shipmasters’ Association.
Permanent exhibit of the Museum of Hydrography will be open to the public on 26 and 27 June 2014 from 10.00 to 14.00 hours at the Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia, Zrinsko-Frankopanska 161.
